Getting here from Markham
By car, by YRT and TTC, and by GO
Down Victoria Park Ave
Victoria Park Ave begins in Markham at Denison St, just north of Steeles Ave, and runs straight south to the clinic. It is the simplest route from western Markham and Milliken, with no highway driving.
By Highway 404 and 401
From central or northern Markham, take Highway 404 south to Highway 401 east, leave at exit 376 (Victoria Park Ave) and drive south for about a kilometre. On-site parking at the door.
YRT 24 Woodbine, then TTC 24
YRT route 24 Woodbine runs from Honda Blvd and Woodbine Ave, through Markham along Woodbine Ave and Victoria Park Ave, to Don Mills station. Southbound inside Toronto it is drop-off only: get off at Victoria Park Ave and Sheppard Ave, or at Don Mills station, and take the TTC 24 Victoria Park bus south to Pachino Blvd, about 100 metres from the clinic.
Viva and YRT to Finch
Several YRT and Viva routes end at Finch station. From there, take Line 1 to Sheppard-Yonge, Line 4 to Don Mills, and the TTC 24B bus south. This takes longer than driving, so use a trip planner first.
Fares
YRT and TTC set their own fares and transfer rules. Check yrt.ca and ttc.ca, or the PRESTO website, before you travel.
When to come
Saturday 9am to 5pm and weekday evenings until 8pm help if you commute. Avoid the 401 and 404 at rush hour when you can, or allow extra time.

Choosing a clinic
How to choose a physiotherapy clinic when you live in %s
The College of Physiotherapists of Ontario does not allow physiotherapists to advertise that they are the best, so here is a practical checklist instead. It applies to any clinic, including ours.
- Check the register. Every physiotherapist practising in Ontario must be registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. You can look them up on the public register at collegept.org.
- Think about travel honestly. Most plans need several visits. A clinic close to home or work, or one you can reach easily after work, makes it easier to keep going.
- Ask about billing. Direct billing to your insurer, auto insurance or WSIB saves paperwork.
- Ask what the first visit includes. A proper assessment, a clear explanation and a home program should be standard.
- Check the hours. Evening and weekend appointments matter if you work full time.
- Language. If you are more comfortable in another language, ask whether it is spoken.
Government-funded physiotherapy
Physio Cottage is a private clinic, so OHIP does not pay for visits here. Ontario funds physiotherapy at designated clinics for people who qualify, for example:
- People 65 and older
- People 19 and under
- People discharged after an overnight hospital stay or a day surgery in the last 12 months who need physiotherapy for that condition
- People receiving Ontario Works or ODSP
- Long-term care residents and people who need in-home physiotherapy through Ontario Health atHome
If you qualify, ontario.ca lists the funded clinics. If you do not, extended health benefits usually cover physiotherapy.

Cost, insurance and OHIP
How much does physiotherapy cost at Physio Cottage?
$115 for the initial assessment and $105 for each follow-up visit. Physiotherapy is HST exempt. All fees are on the pricing page.
How much is 1 hour of physiotherapy?
Clinics in Ontario price by visit, not by the hour. At Physio Cottage, an initial physiotherapy assessment is $115 and a follow-up visit is $105. Massage therapy is priced by length, from $79.10 for 30 minutes to $124.30 for 60 minutes, including HST.
Why is physiotherapy so expensive?
Private physiotherapy in Ontario is not covered by OHIP, so the fee covers a registered professional’s time, the clinic and equipment. Most people use extended health benefits, which often cover much of the cost, and we bill many plans directly.
Is it worth paying for physiotherapy?
For many muscle and joint problems, guidelines recommend exercise-based care such as physiotherapy, and early care can help you return to normal activity. Whether it is worth it for you depends on your problem and goals; your physiotherapist should give you a clear plan and review progress honestly.
Is there OHIP covered physiotherapy in Markham?
Ontario funds physiotherapy at designated clinics for people who qualify, such as people 65 and older, people 19 and under, people recently discharged from hospital who need physiotherapy for that condition, and people on Ontario Works or ODSP. Physio Cottage is private and not OHIP funded; ontario.ca lists the funded clinics.
How do I get free physiotherapy sessions in Ontario?
There is no general free allowance. If you qualify for government-funded physiotherapy, the treatment is free at a designated clinic. Otherwise, extended health benefits, WSIB for work injuries and auto insurance for car accidents are the usual ways physiotherapy is paid for.
Do you direct bill insurance?
Yes, we bill many extended health plans directly where your plan allows it. You get an official receipt after every visit.
Do you bill auto insurance and WSIB?
Yes. Approved auto insurance and WSIB claims are billed directly where the claim covers the treatment. We also offer insurer assessments for car accident claims.

Choosing physiotherapy
Who is the best physiotherapist in Markham?
Ontario’s physiotherapy college does not allow physiotherapists to advertise that they are the best, and the right fit depends on you. Check that the physiotherapist is registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, that the clinic is easy to reach, that it bills your insurer and that its hours suit you.
Is it better to see a chiropractor or a physiotherapist?
Both are regulated health professions in Ontario that treat back and neck problems. Physiotherapists also treat a wide range of other injuries and conditions with exercise-based rehabilitation. At Physio Cottage you can see either, and they coordinate where it helps.
What is a red flag in physiotherapy?
A red flag is a sign that a problem may be serious and needs a doctor, such as unexplained weight loss, fever, night pain that does not ease, numbness in the groin, loss of bladder or bowel control, or progressive weakness. Physiotherapists screen for these at every assessment.
What is the 80-20 rule in physiotherapy?
It is an informal idea, not a clinical rule: most of your progress comes from what you do between visits, such as your home exercises and activity. Your clinic sessions guide and progress that work.
How long does it take to become a physiotherapist in Canada?
Physiotherapists in Canada usually complete an undergraduate degree and then a master’s degree in physiotherapy, then meet the national and provincial entry-to-practice requirements. In Ontario they must register with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario before they can practise.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem and your goals. Your physiotherapist gives you an estimate after the first assessment and reviews it as you go.
